ACU to Start Groundbreaking Cyber Security Program

Abilene Christian University is working to combat the growing need for cyber security jobs.

VP and Chief Academic Innovation and Strategy Officer, George Saltsman, says they’re partnering with InfoSec for a groundbreaking program that creates a direct pipeline between cyber security education and a career.

“Within the United States, there’s seven hundred and fifty five thousand cyber security job openings that were posted and documented by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics,” Saltsman said. “There’s seventy three thousand openings in Texas alone.”

He adds the industry is expected to grow over 32% within the next ten years, and that people might have to start training for jobs like these at an earlier age.

“We’ve got to do a better job of helping students in school realize that these are the jobs of tomorrow and prepare them for these jobs,” Saltsman said. “Because they take a high level of technical acumen. And those are the kinds of things that STEM prepares us to do.”
