COLLIN COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Lovejoy ISD community is mourning the death of a 9-year-old girl who was killed in a multi-vehicle crash in Collin County this week.

Authorities said it happened on the FM 3286 bridge over Lavon Lake on Wednesday around 3:45 p.m.

In a Thursday news release, The Texas Department of Public Safety said four vehicles were traveling eastbound when a 2013 Jeep Wrangler, whose driver “failed to control speed,” rear- ended a 2015 Nissan Versa sedan, causing the sedan to hit a commercial van.

The jeep then hit a retainer wall and side-swiped a school bus. Abigal Kate-Rascher of Princeton was a passenger in the sedan.

Lovejoy ISD says Abigail was a third grader at Hart Elementary. Two drivers were taken to a nearby hospital and a medical facility with minor injuries.

Texas DPS said there were about nine to 13 students on the school bus but no one was injured.

Investigators are still looking into whether charges will be filed.
