DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) -Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson addressed reports surrounding his recent divorce.
In a statement on Thursday, the mayor confirmed that he and his wife of 16 years are going through a divorce, but he said that he will keep details about the proceedings private.
Johnson’s statement was issued in response to reports first reported by D Magazine that court documents from Wednesday proceedings show the mayor allegedly had an affair with a city employee.
D Magazine reports that Johnson’s wife, Nakita Johnson, accused her husband of having the affair and adds that she “caught” him being unfaithful with the staff at their home in February 2021.
The mayor allegedly admitted to the affair when his wife confronted him about it, according to D Magazine.
D Magazine reports that the mayor admitted in his testimony that he and the woman shared a hotel room during a trip to the Ritz Carlton in Montreal but claimed the two slept in separate beds.
The mayor testified the trip occurred after Johnson filed for divorce and after the woman was no longer employed by the City of Dallas.
The woman in question launched a consulting firm after the leaving the City of Dallas, one that campaign finance reports show, Mayor Johnson employed as part of his re-election campaign in 2023, according to the report.
D Magazine reports that attorney representing Nakita Johnson entered the payments between the campaign and consulting firm into court evidence to bolster claims of “personal and professional relationships” between Mayor Johnson and the former staffer.
The woman has not been publicly identified but denied the allegations and claimed she was unaware that her name or actions were factors in the Johnson’s divorce, according to D Magazine.
