Garland Police Department Sees Recruiting Success

GARLAND – (WBAP/KLIF) – Garland Police report success not seen in 30 years time with the number of potential police officers recruited in their current training; another civil service exam for interested parties will be held on April the 6th.

Spokesman Matt Pesta says recruiting efforts including social media ads, in-person visits to schools and military establishments and videos are helping to identify Garland PD as among the better paying city police departments to work for.

Pesta says Garland officers begin with paid training, all equipment provided, and start with an annual salary of about $80,000, capping out at roughly $107,000 after a few years.

This year’s recruitment class featured eight cadets with prior law enforcement experience, now on the streets training and providing service to citizens. 21 additional cadets are still involved in training. For years, prior classes of roughly 30 cadets had dwindled to as few as 13.
