(WBAP/KLIF) — The City of Fort Worth has come to the aid of businesses suffering economic loss after the Sandman Signature Hotel explosion, earlier this year. Downtown businesses adversely affected by January’s hotel natural gas blast are now being offered financial help from the city.
Ori Fernandez is the city’s Assistant Economic Director and says the Fort Worth Local Development Corporation has approved a $250,000 disaster recovery stimulus program to assist business owners with expenses. Each qualified business that was in direct proximity to the blast area, and which suffered financial loss, may receive up to $50,000. The money is for rent, employee support, utilities, supplies, or other approved business costs.
According to Fernandez, the incident made it difficult for customers to access businesses in near the blast area. Meanwhile, a stretch of 8th Street in downtown Fort Worth (between Throckmorton St. and Houston St.) remains closed since the January 8th explosion, as crews continue repairs.
Qualified businesses have six months to take advantage of the program.
