DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Two Dallas residents are suing Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice and SMU cornerback Teddy Knox in the wake of a multi-car crash that injured them and at least five others last month.
The lawsuit alleges the two men were racing along Central Expressway during heavy traffic causing the March 30 collision.
The Lambourghini SUV that Rice admitted to driving and the Corvette allegedly driven by Knox hit several cars and the couple was left with severe injuries. Parts of the incident were captured on video.
According to the lawsuit, filed in Dallas County court on last Thursday, the plaintiffs, Edvard Petrovskiy and Irina Gromova, suffered numerous injuries including lacerations and contusions, brain trauma, disfigurement and internal bleeding.
The couple is seeking more than $1 million in damages for medical care, physical and mental pain and suffering along with property damage. They’re also seeking $10 million in punitive damages.
Dallas police said Rice and Knox left the scene after the crash.
The two turned themselves into the Glenn Heights police last week and were released after posting bond.
Both are facing numerous charges including one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury.
During a press conference on April 4, Rice’s attorney State Senator Royce West said his client reached out to some of the crash victims and will work to “bring a sense of normalcy back into their lives.” He did not address why his client waited days to speak with police about the crash.
The Kansas City Chiefs said Rice would participate in the team’s voluntary offseason program that starts this week.
SMU announced that Knox has been suspended from the football team after the school learned of his alleged involvement in the crash.
