SULPHUR, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma’s governor says tornadoes that tore through Oklahoma and flattened buildings in one rural town have killed at least four people. Gov. Kevin Stitt said Sunday that nearly 30,000 people are still without power after the tornadoes began kicking up late Saturday night, leaving a wide trail of destruction.
The damage was extensive in Sulphur, a town of about 5,000 people. There some downtown buildings were reduced to rubble and roofs were sheared off houses over several blocks. Stitt said about 30 people were injured in the town. The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management later said hospitals across the state have reported about 100 injuries, including people apparently cut or struck by debris or hurt from falls.
