(WBAP/KLIF) — Calls continue to get louder for donations at local area food banks.
Summer is the most critical time for families dealing with food insecurity and many area pantries are seeing a drop in the number of donations compared to previous years.
Stephen Raeside with the Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB) says they’ve run into a food shortage at a time when many families need them the most.
With school ending soon, many families will be even more strapped as free and reduced lunch programs will end for their kids. Raeside says food donations from local grocers are also down 10%, causing a significant food deficit. So, he’s asking North Texans to make monetary donations if at all possible.
April is a huge month for donations at the food bank, which provides food for the entire summer. Raeside says small donations go a long way to solving the hunger crisis. Just one dollar buys five quality, nutritious meals for those suffering from food insecurity.
