Accused Wilmer – Hutchins Shooter Indicted

(WBAP-KLIF) Dallas – Tracy Haynes Jr, the 17 year old accused of shooting four students and a teacher April 13th at Wilmer-Hutchins High School has been indicted by a Dallas County Grand Jury.

Haynes faces five felony charges of Aggravated Assault Mass Shooting. Haynes remained in custody at the Dallas County Jail as of Wednesday after a judge refused to reduce his multi-million dollar bail last month.

Haynes was seen on surveillance video entering the school through a door that another student reportedly opened for him at the school in Southeast Dallas.

Haynes was charged with a fairly new charge, aggravated assault mass shooting. That charge was introduced in 2023, when it was passed into law. House Bill 165, amended the Texas Penal Code to allow multiple offenses of aggravated assault stemming from the same shooting incident….. to be covered in one charge.

Under the law, the mass shooting charge is a first-degree felony which is punishable by 5-99 years in prison, or life.
