FORT WORTH, Texas WFAA – (WBAP/KLIF) — Fort Worth City Council voted Tuesday to name Robert Alldredge, currently the department’s executive assistant chief, as Interim Fort Worth Police Chief.
As current chief Neil Noakes prepares to retire at the end of the month, Alldredge will step into the role while Fort Worth City Manager Jay Chapa works to find a replacement for Noakes. Councilmembers unanimously approved Alldredge’s appointment, district four representative Charlie Lauersdorf was absent from he vote.
“In my experience and those of us here on the dais, you have served faithfully and diligently in your capacity as assistant chief,” District 2 councilmember Carlos Flores said. “I support your selection as interim police chief because I have the utmost confidence in your knowledge and expertise as well as your professional character and your personal demeanor, because you need all that when dealing with the most challenging issues that come at us as a city and as a police department.”
Alldredge has served with FWPD since 1999, first as an officer, then rising to corporal and sergeant within the Patrol Bureau, WFAA previously reported. He would go on to serve as a lieutenant, and later a captain, for multiple divisions.
Most recently, Alldredge has overseen FWPD’s finance/personnel bureau.
Before joining the department, Alldredge earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in criminal justice from Tarleton State University. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has served in the United States Air Force.
The city said a national search for its next chief began in April and will continue for several months. It’s being conducted by Mosaic Public Partners. The city hopes to have its final selection made by August, WFAA previously reported.
Alldredge’s first day as interim chief will be June 1. Noakes’ last day with the department is May 31.
