Southlake’s Gateway Mega-Church Announces Layoffs

SOUTHLAKE – (WBAP/KLIF) – Southlake’s Gateway Church announces layoffs that will run through the month of July, because of a significant drop in regular donations from members. The church, not detailing how wide those layoffs will be, but packages including offers of voluntary resignations will reportedly run up to four months’ salary.

Last fall, former Gateway members sued the church and founder, former Senior Pastor Robert Morris, for reportedly failing to use tithing as promised for foreign missionary work. Morris is facing indictment on several charges in the state of Oklahoma, following allegations made by a woman who alleges he abused her in the 1980s when she was aged 12 through 17 years.

Morris will be replaced by Virginia Lifepoint Church’s Daniel Floyd in August.

The church is reported to be the 8th largest mega-church in the United States; with, at last count in a survey, some 19,000 members.
