Now Passed In Texas; Redistricting Moves 5 Democratic Seats to Republicans, Ahead of the 2026 Midterm Elections

AUSTIN – (WBAP/KLIF) – Despite outnumbered Democratic lawmakers in Texas holding various protests against an announced plan to hand five Democratic Congressional seats to the Republicans, the measure has now been passed by Texas lawmakers.

The issue has drawn the ire of Democrats and Democratic voting states, including California, where Governor Gavin Newsom is working to let voters decide if they will turn five Republican seats into Democratic ones to offset the Texas loss.

Republicans shut down amendments the Democrats proposed to the bill, including measures to block the map’s implementation until after the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files and until a federal court determined the plan would not suppress the vote of people of color.
