Thousands of homes are under evacuation orders and warnings because of wildfires in Northern California wine country and in central Oregon. Firefighters backed by helicopters were working Sunday to try to contain the blazes in dry, hot weather. Cal Fire says the Pickett Fire in Napa County north of San Francisco has charred about 10 square miles and was 11% contained. In Oregon, the state Fire Marshal’s Office says the 29-square-mile Flat Fire had no containment. About 500 people in California were ordered or warned to evacuate. Fire officials say the Oregon fire is threatening nearly 4,000 homes, which all had some level of evacuation notice.
