(WBAP/KLIF) – DALLAS, TX – Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson wants the Dallas City Council to explore a partnership with immigration authorities to give officers the power to enforce federal laws. The Mayor sent council members a memo that participating in the program could allow the city to hire additional officers with no impact on its budget.

Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux previously told the Community Police Oversight Board Tuesday that ICE offered the Dallas Police Department $25 million dollars to sign a deal which he declined. The chief stated that his officers don’t make immigration arrests. Mayor Johnson argues that it shouldn’t be a unilateral decision.
