RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina Republican leaders are almost complete with redrawing the state’s U.S. House map to help the GOP gain another seat. This move aims to support President Donald Trump’s goal of retaining a chamber majority after 2026 through mid-decade redistricting in several states. The state House scheduled debate and votes Wednesday on the proposed boundaries, which seek to block Democratic U.S. Rep. Don Davis’s reelection. The state Senate already approved the proposal Tuesday. Republicans hold majorities in both chambers, and Democratic Governor Josh Stein cannot veto redistricting maps. Litigation is likely. Critics argue the amended map contains a racial gerrymander, a claim Republicans deny.
