PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Voters in Maine and Texas have considered Republican-backed proposals that proponents say would safeguard elections, but opponents believe are intended to make voting more difficult. Maine voters on Tuesday rejected a proposal centered on voter ID. It involved implementing a photo ID requirement for voters, limiting the use of drop boxes for returning completed ballots and making changes to the state’s absentee voting system. Voters in Texas approved a proposal to amend the state constitution to add people who are not U.S. citizens to the list of those excluded from elections.
