
DALLAS FORT WORTH – (WBAP/KLIF) – The electrical grid operator for much of Texas, ERCOT, has issued a weather watch for Saturday through Tuesday, ahead of a powerful winter storm bringing bone chilling cold and a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow this weekend. ERCOT notes it expects electrical demand to be higher than normal draw this weekend, though emphasizes it expects grid conditions to be normal.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for all of North and Central Texas from noon Friday until Sunday afternoon. the agency, also issuing an extreme cold watch from 6 PM Saturday through Monday morning. Precipitation is now expected to fall non stop from Friday night through Saturday, with a 70% chance of continuation Saturday night, and at present, a 20% chance of additional snow and sleet on Sunday. However, freezing temperatures are expected to last along with that frozen precipitation mess until some point Tuesday; the first we’ll see of above freezing temperatures once again.
Governor Greg Abbott has activated state emergency services in preparation for the storm, which is expected to blow through 35 states before it is all over. Much of the South and states up through the Northeast will feel the brunt of this storm moving in.
