ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) — A top Iranian official has warned the U.S. against any ground invasion as regional diplomats met in Pakistan in a push to end the war. On Sunday, Iran’s parliament speaker says invading U.S. troops would be set “on fire.” Pakistan hosted foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt in Islamabad. Israel and the U.S. kept striking Iran, and Iran fired missiles and drones. Iran also threatened Israeli universities and U.S. university branches in the region after strikes hit Iranian campuses. The Houthis in Yemen also joined the fighting. The monthlong war has killed more than 3,000 people across several countries.
Worries about global economic pain deepen as the war in Iran drags on
WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran have darkened the outlook for the world economy. The conflict has driven up oil, natural gas and fertilizer prices and sent global stock markets reeling. Developing countries have been forced to ration fuel and subsidize energy costs to protect their poorest. Ongoing strikes and counterstrikes on Persian Gulf refineries, pipelines, gas fields and tanker terminals threaten to the prolong the global economic pain for months, even years. There previously was optimism the world economy could shrug off damage from the Iran war. But those hopes are fading as threats to the Gulf’s energy infrastructure continue.
Hacked hospitals, hidden spyware: Iran conflict shows how digital fight is ingrained in warfare
WASHINGTON (AP) — Iran has turned to its cyber operations to make up for its military disadvantages in its conflict with Israel and the U.S. Since the war began last month, hackers supporting Iran have launched thousands of cyberattacks on companies and organizations in both the U.S. and Israel, seeking to undermine the war effort and critical supply chains. Hospitals and health care organizations have been targeted, as well as data centers. Iran is also using artificial intelligence to generate bogus images of the war. These operations haven’t yet had a huge impact, but they demonstrate how disinformation, AI and hacking are now ingrained in modern warfare.
