Johnson County deputies shot and killed a man who allegedly shot at first responders while they were responding to a structure fire, injuring a deputy, officials said.
Deputies responded to reports of an officer-involved shooting on Wednesday morning in the 5400 block of County Road 605, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
Investigators found that the shooting occurred when Johnson County deputies responded alongside local fire departments to a reported structure fire, the release states. When deputies arrived, a suspect reportedly began firing at first responders and injured one deputy, officials said.
Deputies located the suspect and shot them, the release states. The suspect was pronounced dead on the scene. Officials did not immediately release additional information on what led up to the shooting.
The injured deputy was taken to a hospital, the sheriff’s office said. Officials did not immediately release information on the extent of their injuries. Officials did not release the identity of the deputy or suspect.
The incident is under investigation and will be turned over to the Texas Rangers, which is standard in use-of-force incidents involving death, officials said.
