(WBAP/KLIF) — Governor Greg Abbott announced the expansion of a task force targeting repeat violent offenders into the Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio metro areas following hundreds of arrests in Houston.
The initiative aims to address the issue of repeat offenders who are released and later arrested for violent crimes. Abbott emphasized that targeting these offenders can reduce crime and improve public safety.
The task force, which has led to 728 arrests in Houston since October, will now collaborate with state, local, and federal law enforcement agencies in other regions to identify and apprehend priority offenders.
The expansion is part of Abbott’s broader efforts on crime and bail reform laws approved by Texas lawmakers last year.
