(WBAP/KLIF) Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner posted a video to social media announcing that he is suspending his campaign. The announcement comes after a wave of mounting pressure from top national and state Democrats, including Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) , following serious sexual assault allegations from a former partner.
While Platner continues to vehemently deny the claims, he stated that he is “mindful of the political reality” the situation has created for the party’s goal of defeating incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins. With Platner out, Maine Democrats now face a high-stakes scramble to select a replacement candidate before the state’s July 13 deadline to finalize the November ballot
