The City of Dallas’ Housing and Community Empowerment Department is launching its Fair Housing Community Connect Tour, with a stop scheduled for Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Churchill Recreation Center in North Dallas.
Instead of making residents track down a city office, staff is showing up in the community itself. People who stop by can file a housing discrimination complaint, sit down for an onsite intake interview, or ask about accommodations and other questions related to their housing rights the city might help with. Staff will also help residents flag housing practices that may be discriminatory and direct them to other legal resources provided by the City of Dallas.
Why This Matters
“For groups like Volunteers of America National Services, housing discrimination and systemic barriers are very real, and we see the stress it causes in our communities every day. All too often, regular people face subtle but devastating issues, like being unfairly denied a reasonable accommodation or facing screening practices meant to keep them out of certain neighborhoods. They just suffer through it because the system feels too intimidating. That is why an initiative like the Fair Housing Community Connect Tour matters so much,” Beaty told The Dallas Express.
“It removes the institutional barriers that keep folks from getting help by meeting residents right where they live. Bringing face-to-face support and real intake services straight to a local neighborhood center creates a safe, accessible space. It gives regular families the exact tools they need to know their rights and protect themselves under the Fair Housing Act. These type events are needed to provide individuals with knowledge and empower them to advocate for themselves,” she added.
Residents with questions about their housing rights – or who believe they may have faced discrimination – are encouraged to stop by Churchill Recreation Center on July 29 and speak with the Fair Housing Division in person.
