A robbery suspect was shot and taken to a hospital early Thursday after trading gunfire with officers during a high-speed pursuit that crossed several North Texas cities, authorities said.
The pursuit stretched through The Colony, Plano, Richardson, and Dallas before ending with the suspect in custody, Fox 4 KDFW reported. No officers were hurt.
Richardson police said the sequence began at 2:12 a.m., when Plano officers notified Richardson patrol units that they had lost sight of a fleeing robbery suspect’s vehicle in the area of Custer Road and West Renner Road.
Richardson officers spotted the vehicle a short time later and attempted a traffic stop, police said. The driver did not pull over, prompting a high-speed chase that continued south into Dallas.
During the pursuit, the suspect fired at the Richardson officers, who returned fire, according to police. The chase concluded near the intersection of Alpha Road and Hughes Lane in Dallas after the suspect’s vehicle was disabled.
Officers took the suspect into custody at the scene, and Dallas Fire-Rescue transported the individual to a local hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound, authorities said.
The suspect’s identity and medical condition have not been released.
Origin of the Pursuit
The chase traced back to a robbery reported within the city limits of The Colony, police said. Plano officers had initially responded to assist The Colony police at a home in Plano tied to that case.
Because the underlying crime occurred in The Colony, that agency is leading the robbery investigation, according to police.
The Dallas Police Department has assumed lead responsibility for the officer-involved shooting investigation, as the exchange of gunfire and arrest took place within Dallas jurisdiction. Officials said neither Plano nor Dallas officers were involved in the shooting itself.
Additional information about potential formal charges will be released as the investigation continues, authorities said.
