A Dallas man reported missing in late July was found shot and burned in a field in southern Oklahoma, authorities said.
Relatives identified the man only as Chris and reported him missing to Dallas police on July 29 after he did not contact them on his birthday, FOX 4 reported. Family members said they last saw him the night of July 28 wearing a white muscle shirt and white shorts before his phone went dark.
The following day, July 30, deputies and fire crews in Love County, Oklahoma, responded to a reported grass fire along Highway 32 west of State Highway 96 and found a charred male body in a field, authorities said.
The Love County Sheriff’s Office released an update on the case on August 4. Investigators said they identified the victim by comparing visible tattoos against law enforcement databases and linked him to a Dallas police missing persons case 110733-2026. Next of kin have been notified, officials said.
The Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy, found four gunshot wounds to the man’s chest and ruled his death a homicide.
Love County authorities said evidence collected at the scene indicates someone killed the victim at another location, dumped his body in the field and set it on fire.
The Love County Sheriff’s Office and the Dallas Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a joint investigation to determine where the killing took place and to identify suspects.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Dallas Police Department or the Love County Sheriff’s Office.
