A security guard is in critical condition after being severely beaten outside a Northwest Dallas business Saturday night, and a suspect has been taken into custody, police said.
Dallas police officers were called around 10 p.m. to the frontage road in the 2400 block of West Northwest Highway to assist other officers, Fox 4 KDFW reported. Responding officers found the guard lying in the roadway with serious injuries.
Investigators said the confrontation began when a man caused a disturbance inside a store where the guard was working. When the guard attempted to escort the man out, the individual turned combative.
During the struggle, the guard deployed a Taser, but it had no effect on the man, police said. The suspect then allegedly attacked the guard with a weapon, causing critical injuries, before fleeing.
Dallas Fire-Rescue transported the guard to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition. His name has not been released.
Officers located the suspect a short distance away shortly after arriving and placed him under arrest, authorities said. Rosalino Lopez, 46, has been charged with aggravated assault of a security officer causing serious bodily injury, a first-degree felony. ICE has also placed a hold on Rosalino as an illegal alien, jail records show.
Crime scene technicians worked the location into the night, where equipment belonging to the guard was left strewn across the roadway. Dallas Police assault detectives are leading the ongoing investigation.
