Why the Soup Was Recalled
Kettle Cuisine said the recall followed routine company testing that produced a presumptive positive result for Listeria monocytogenes. The company is continuing its investigation in coordination with the FDA.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an infection that can be particularly serious for young children, older adults, frail individuals and people with weakened immune systems.
Healthy people may experience symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle aches, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. More serious infections can cause headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions.
Listeria infection can also cause miscarriage or stillbirth in pregnant people.
What Consumers Should Do
Consumers who purchased the recalled Marketside Tomato Bisque Soup Kit should not eat, serve, sell, or distribute it.
The FDA and the company recommend disposing of the product or returning it to the place of purchase for a refund. Consumers should not rely on the product’s smell or appearance to determine whether it is safe.
Anyone who handles the recalled product should wash their hands and clean and sanitize refrigerators, freezers, containers, utensils, countertops, and other surfaces that may have come into contact with it.
People who ate the recalled product and develop symptoms associated with listeriosis should contact a healthcare provider. Pregnant people should promptly contact a healthcare provider if they develop a fever or other symptoms after possible exposure.
