A Frisco woman was arrested after police investigated allegations of child abuse and neglect following a request for a welfare check at a home on Bethel Drive, according to the Frisco Police Department.
Ann Mary Burton, 49, was taken into custody on August 14 on charges of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury and endangering a child. She remained in the Collin County Jail as of Tuesday, police said in a statement.
Frisco police received an email around 12:47 a.m. on August 11 requesting a welfare check in the 12000 block of Bethel Drive. The request involved allegations of child neglect and abuse.
Detectives investigated the allegations and determined there was probable cause to obtain arrest warrants for Burton, police said.
Burton faces a first-degree felony charge of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury. The charge carries a potential punishment of five to 99 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. The warrant lists a $1 million bond.
She also faces a state jail felony charge of endangering a child. That offense is punishable by 180 days to two years in a state jail facility and a fine of up to $10,000. The warrant lists a $500,000 bond.
Police said the investigation remains active. The department did not release additional details about the alleged abuse or the child’s condition.
