Samsung will unveil a new member of its Galaxy S26 smartphone family Thursday, promising to bring the flagship line’s camera and artificial intelligence features to a broader group of consumers.
The company has not publicly named the device, but industry reports and federal regulatory filings point to the long-anticipated Galaxy S26 FE, a lower-cost edition expected to compete for buyers who want premium features without paying flagship prices.
Samsung Keeps the Name Under Wraps
Samsung’s virtual “Galaxy Event August 2026” begins at 8 a.m. Eastern time Thursday and will stream on the company’s website, Samsung Members app, and YouTube channel.
In its official invitation, Samsung described the product only as the “newest addition to the Galaxy S26 family.” The company said the device was designed to deliver many of the S26 series’ camera, AI, and One UI software experiences.
Samsung has not confirmed the device’s price, specifications, availability date, or name ahead of the presentation.
Technology publications, however, widely expect Thursday’s announcement to introduce the Galaxy S26 FE. Samsung uses the FE, or “Fan Edition,” designation for phones that retain selected features from its flagship models while making hardware and pricing changes intended to reach more cost-conscious consumers.
Regulatory Filing Signals U.S. Release
A Samsung phone bearing model number SM-S741U recently cleared the Federal Communications Commission’s certification process, according to 91mobiles, which reviewed the agency listing. The filing indicates that the device is being prepared for the U.S. market.
Samsung has not confirmed that the model is the phone being introduced Thursday. However, the certification and timing have fueled expectations that the company is preparing an imminent U.S. release of the S26 FE.
Reports based on regulatory information and other prelaunch disclosures have connected the device with 45-watt wired charging, wireless charging, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, near-field communication, and ultra-wideband connectivity. Other specifications circulating online — including details about the display, processor, cameras, battery capacity, storage, and price — remain unconfirmed.
AI Expected to Take Center Stage
Samsung’s invitation makes clear that artificial intelligence will be central to Thursday’s presentation. The existing Galaxy S26 series uses AI to provide contextual suggestions, assist with photography, generate or edit content, and reduce the need to move between applications.
Samsung described the S26 family as its third generation of AI-focused smartphones during the Mobile World Congress in March. The company said its software can interpret a user’s intent, anticipate needs, and recommend actions.
The standard Galaxy S26 series debuted in February. Samsung said at the time that its premium S26 Ultra included a built-in privacy display and upgraded processing and thermal-management systems intended to support more demanding AI functions.
Thursday’s announcement will show how many of those capabilities Samsung can retain in a less expensive device — and which features the company removes or scales back to reach a lower price.
Price Could Decide Its Appeal
Samsung faces competition from Apple, Google, and other Android manufacturers in a market where consumers increasingly expect long software support, advanced cameras, and AI tools without paying top-tier prices.
The company has not disclosed whether the new phone will be available immediately after Thursday’s presentation or begin shipping later. Those details, along with the official price and complete specifications, are expected during the livestream.
