Dallas hotels could fill more than 5,000 rooms as roughly 20,000 attendees converge on American Airlines Center for the Republican National Committee’s first midterm convention on September 9 and 10.
The projected influx would drive business to hotels, restaurants, bars, rideshare vehicles, and entertainment venues across Victory Park, Uptown, and downtown, while placing Dallas at the center of national political coverage.
More than 5,000 hotel rooms
Visit Dallas President and CEO Craig Davis said the two-day event could fill more than 5,000 hotel rooms.
“With our convention center currently under construction, the midterm convention will offer our hotels a much-needed boost,” Davis told Bisnow.
Dallas has 35,559 rooms within city limits and 10,642 rooms in the walkable downtown core, according to Visit Dallas’ hotel inventory. Those room counts give the city enough capacity to absorb a major gathering while concentrating much of the spending near the arena.
The city’s visitor economy already carries substantial weight. Dallas welcomed more than 27.7 million visitors in 2024, generating $10.9 billion in economic impact, supporting more than 60,000 jobs and producing $649 million in state and local tax revenue, Visit Dallas data show. Lodging accounted for $1.9 billion, while food and beverage spending reached $1.8 billion.
A major event during convention center construction
The RNC gathering gives Dallas major group business without relying on the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, which is undergoing a multibillion-dollar overhaul. Visit Dallas has promoted the city’s hotels and connected campuses as meeting venues during construction.
The tourism organization also built a dedicated visitor page for convention guests, directing them to Dallas dining, nightlife, attractions and transportation information.
Trump and Vance put Dallas in prime time
President Donald Trump will appear on both nights and deliver the second-night keynote, while Vice President JD Vance will give the opening-night keynote, according to the RNC’s official schedule. The program lists 109 total items or speakers across the two nights.
The gathering marks the first Republican midterm convention. An RNC spokesman previously told The Dallas Express that American Airlines Center would have capacity for more than 20,000 attendees, including media, making it the party’s largest convention of any kind since 2016.
Rates rise closest to the arena
A Friday review of public booking data found rooms still available across Dallas, but the clearest price pressure appeared near American Airlines Center. A rate trend for nearby Hôtel Swexan listed $597 for September 8, then $1,368 for September 9 and $1,322 for September 10 before falling to $412 on September 11. Hotel prices can change quickly as inventory moves.
A broader room search continued to show Dallas-area availability for September 8 through 11, supporting a picture of concentrated demand around the venue rather than a citywide sellout.
Restaurants and bars expect the spillover
Hotels, restaurants and bars within walking distance of American Airlines Center should receive the largest increase, Marcus & Millichap Executive Managing Director Chris Gomes told Bisnow. The RNC also plans food, drinks and entertainment in Victory Plaza, as reported by The Dallas Express.
Davis said the benefit can outlast the two-day gathering because visits can lead to return trips, new talent and future investment. For Dallas, the convention offers both an immediate hospitality lift and a national showcase for the city’s capacity to host high-profile events.
