A stray bullet from a dispute near a Nashville Sam’s Club tore through the store’s metal wall early Sunday and struck a Frito-Lay employee in the head as he took inventory, killing him, police said.
Paris Carlock, 55, of Murfreesboro, was working in the chip aisle shortly after 4 a.m. when the bullet hit him, according to a Metropolitan Nashville Police Department release. Store staff rushed to his aid, but Carlock later died at a local hospital.
Police described Carlock as an innocent victim.
Argument spills outside lounge
Investigators connected the gunfire to an argument that began inside Lavo Lounge on Antioch Pike, a short distance from the Sam’s Club.
Security personnel removed the people involved from the lounge, but the dispute reportedly continued outside, police said. Shots were heard as multiple vehicles left the area. One round went through the side wall of the Sam’s Club and struck Carlock near the middle of the store.
MNPD’s Homicide Unit was pursuing leads. Police had not publicly announced any arrests or identified a shooter as of Monday evening.
Family urges those responsible to surrender
Carlock’s daughter, Kayla Carlock, remembered him as a humble, loving man who was always ready to help others during an interview with WZTV.
“Anything that you can ever ask for, my dad will always be the person to call,” she said. “He’s very loving.”
Kayla Carlock urged those responsible to turn themselves in, saying the shooting “completely broke our family.”
PepsiCo, which owns Frito-Lay, provided WZTV with a statement:
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our colleagues. Our sincere condolences are with their family members and loved ones. We have been working closely with law enforcement and local officials regarding the matter.”
Nashville police urged anyone with information about the gunfire or the vehicles involved to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
