The City of Dallas is accepting registrations for the eighth annual Branch Out Dallas program, which distributes free 5-gallon trees to residents to expand the city’s urban tree canopy.
Registration opened online and will continue through September 30, while supplies last, according to information announced by the City of Dallas. Residents can sign up at dallas.gov/branchoutdallas.
To qualify, participants must live inside Dallas city limits and provide a Dallas Water Utilities water account number when registering. During sign-up, residents can choose from available tree varieties and select a pick-up site.
Trees must be picked up on Dallas Arbor Day, Saturday, November 7, between 9 a.m. and noon at the location chosen during registration. Delivery is not offered.
City officials said the program supports efforts to strengthen the tree canopy because trees help reduce stormwater runoff into drainage systems, lower temperatures, improve air quality, and mitigate the heat island effect.
Dallas Water Utilities staff run Branch Out Dallas, with help from the citywide Forestry team, community partners, and volunteers who distribute the trees. As the trees mature, they can provide shade, help manage stormwater, and contribute to a healthier urban environment across the city.
