Fort Worth police announced Wednesday that officers arrested a juvenile accused of shooting a security guard at The Crescent Hotel after hotel security personnel confronted him about checking car doors inside the hotel’s parking garage.
Tips from the public helped investigators identify the suspect, police said. The announcement came six days after the September 3 shooting in Fort Worth’s Cultural District. The juvenile faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Security guard shot after confrontation
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, surveillance video showed a person checking car door handles inside the garage at 3300 Camp Bowie Blvd. around 2:45 a.m. on September 3. A security guard approached the person and told him to leave, police said.
The suspect initially walked toward the garage’s east exit. As he left, he allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired several shots toward the security guards before fleeing eastbound, police said.
Gunfire struck one guard in the arm. The guard received medical treatment and appeared headed toward a full recovery, the hotel said. The hotel also praised its security team for its response.
Investigators considered the suspect dangerous because he had displayed, pointed and fired a handgun, striking a person, Officer Daniel Segura said shortly after the shooting. Police urged anyone who recognized the suspect or had relevant video to contact detectives.
Public tips lead to arrest
Fort Worth police released surveillance footage after the shooting and asked residents and businesses to help identify the suspect. Community members provided information that helped investigators make the arrest, the department said.
In its September 9 update, the department identified the suspect only as a juvenile. Police did not release his name or mugshot because of his age, FOX 4 reported.
The aggravated assault charge remains an allegation. The announcement did not disclose when or where officers made the arrest or provide other details about the juvenile case.
