A 10-year-old Dallas boy was hospitalized after gunfire struck his apartment late Monday night, hitting him in the leg as he slept, according to police.
The shooting was reported around 11:45 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 6800 block of South Cockrell Hill Road in the Red Bird area. Investigators believe several rounds were fired from outside the complex.
Bullets Entered Apartment
Police said multiple shots were fired toward the apartment building, with at least two rounds penetrating the residence through a wall and window.
At least one of the bullets struck the child in the leg. His mother and sister, who were also inside the apartment when the shooting occurred, were not injured.
The boy was taken to Children’s Medical Center Dallas for treatment. His injuries were considered serious but not life-threatening, and he is expected to survive, Fox 4 KDFW reported.
Investigators believe the shooting was random and do not believe the family was intentionally targeted.
No Suspect Identified
Officers recovered shell casings from the street as they investigated the scene.
Authorities have not identified a suspect or released a description of anyone believed to be responsible. Police are also looking for surveillance video from the surrounding area that could provide clues.
