Teen remains in custody after fatal shooting
In a separate case, a 15-year-old remains in custody after allegedly shooting 18-year-old Cristopher Nevarez from behind while sitting in a car and shooting himself in the hand, police said.
The Dallas Express covered the case October 9, when police announced plans to change the juvenile’s charge to manslaughter after Nevarez died.
Officers responded around 7:30 p.m. October 3 to a call in the 8200 block of Walnut Hill Lane. Nevarez and the juvenile had arrived at a hospital in a private vehicle after a shooting elsewhere, according to the police release.
Nevarez appeared to have a gunshot wound to his neck and was in critical condition, police said. The juvenile had a gunshot wound to his hand.
The Dallas Police Fugitive Unit arrested the juvenile October 5 on a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Nevarez died October 7. Police said they would update the charge to manslaughter; the release did not confirm that the change had occurred.
The department did not identify the juvenile or specify the shooting location. The investigation remains ongoing under case number 145847-2026.
