General Motors, Hyundai, and Ford have filed four recalls covering 129,619 vehicles over defects that could interrupt braking, disable airbags, cause drivers to lose steering control, or unexpectedly shift Lincoln hybrids into Neutral.
The filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration span October 20 through November 2. They include another inspection for thousands of GM vans that dealers previously checked under an earlier steering recall.
GM brake defect linked to crash reports
The largest recall covers 67,380 vehicles: certain 2023-2027 Cadillac Lyriq, 2024-2027 Chevrolet Blazer EV, 2025-2026 Cadillac Celestiq and 2026-2027 Cadillac Vistiq models. The Lyriq and Blazer EV populations involve specific performance all-wheel-drive configurations, not every vehicle in those model years.
GM said brake-control software can temporarily interrupt braking at low speeds after a particular sequence: light braking during a sharp turn over a bump or depression, followed by a momentary release and reapplication of the brakes. Normal braking returns on the next brake press.
GM identified 24 potentially related field complaints, including 20 minor accidents, two of which involved allegations of minor injuries. The company will update the software through eligible over-the-air installations or at dealerships. It plans to begin notifying owners beginning December 14. The recall number is 26V717.
Hyundai airbag software can deactivate protection
Hyundai reported a software problem affecting 37,901 vehicles: 29,058 Kona Electric models from 2019-2023 and 8,843 Veloster N models from 2019-2022.
A reboot or power interruption while the airbag control unit writes data can corrupt its memory, illuminate the airbag warning light, and deactivate the airbag system. Airbags may then fail to deploy during a crash.
Hyundai documented 331 unique U.S. incidents alleging the condition and reported no related U.S. crashes, fires or injuries as of its October 22 recall decision. Dealers will update the software at no charge. Hyundai plans owner notices January 1, 2027, and VIN search availability November 6. The recall numbers are 26V728 and Hyundai 311.
GM vans need another steering inspection
GM disclosed that its earlier steering recall omitted 108 suspect steering-gear serial numbers, prompting a new recall covering 12,715 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans from model years 2025-2026.
An improperly tightened nut can separate from the steering assembly and cause a loss of steering control. Drivers may notice less precise steering or an off-center steering wheel while traveling straight.
Dealers will inspect the expanded list of suspect serial numbers and replace matching assemblies. The recall includes vehicles that previously passed inspection or lack a recorded steering-gear serial number. GM reported no associated crashes or injuries and plans owner notification beginning December 14. The recall number is 26V718.
Lincoln hybrids may shift into Neutral
Ford explained that anti-rust oil inside a parking module can degrade a protective circuit-board coating, potentially causing an unexpected shift into Neutral while driving or preventing a vehicle from shifting out of Park.
The recall covers 11,560 Lincoln Nautilus Hybrid vehicles from model years 2026-2027 and 63 Corsair Hybrid vehicles from 2027. Ford reported no attributed accidents, fires, or injuries.
Dealers will replace the module at no charge with a revised component and updated software. Ford scheduled interim owner letters for November 2-6. The recall numbers are 26V688 and Ford 26S75.
Check the vehicle identification number
NHTSA advises owners to check its recall lookup using their VIN or license plate. A model-year match alone does not establish that a specific vehicle needs repair. Recently announced recalls may not appear immediately, so owners should check again as VINs enter the system.
