CAIR Action’s Texas picks won offices from the governor’s mansion and U.S. Senate to courts and school boards, according to unofficial election returns.
At least 37 candidates fully endorsed in the current guide won, including two who were running unopposed. Two additional full endorsees held narrow leads. That minimum excludes candidates rated Preferred, including the governor and U.S. Senate winners.
CAIR Action advertises “Building Muslim Political Power.” Its recommended winners will shape lawsuits, prosecutions, taxes and classroom standards.
CAIR’s national campaign sought to mobilize 3 million additional Muslim voters, with Texas among 12 priority states. Its plan included mosque registration drives and polling-place trips after Friday prayers. Those were targets and planned activities, not verified turnout.
CAIR Action is a separate 501(c)(4) advocacy organization from CAIR, a 501(c)(3) that does not endorse candidates. Gov. Greg Abbott’s November 18, 2025, Texas proclamation designated CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terrorist and transnational criminal organizations. It did not separately name CAIR Action or constitute a federal designation. CAIR denies supporting terrorism. Its DFW and Austin chapters challenged the Texas proclamation.
Florida’s separate CAIR designations took effect November 5 after a judge rejected most emergency relief, while protecting access to legal counsel. The ruling did not decide whether CAIR qualifies as a terrorist organization. Attorney General Ken Paxton’s February Texas lawsuit sought to stop CAIR and its Austin, Houston and DFW chapters from operating in the state.
Top offices and courts
Preferred selections state Rep. Gina Hinojosa (D-District 49) defeated Abbott for governor, state Rep. James Talarico (D-District 50) defeated Paxton for U.S. Senate, and state Sen. Nathan Johnson (D-Dallas) won attorney general. Fully endorsed state Rep. Vikki Goodwin (D-District 47) won lieutenant governor.
Talarico met with Muslim voters in Irving before the election.
Hinojosa will have veto and appointment powers. Goodwin will preside over the Senate, Johnson will lead state litigation, and Talarico will vote on federal laws, spending and nominations.
Preferred winners Sarah Eckhardt, Benjamin Flores, Clayton Tucker and Jon Rosenthal won comptroller, land commissioner, agriculture commissioner and one of three railroad commission seats, respectively.
Preferred choices won four Texas Supreme Court and three Court of Criminal Appeals races. Full endorsees Melissa Marie Morris, Monica Rawlins and Rabeea Collier won district judgeships. Monica Singh, Shannon Baldwin and Toria Finch won county courts in Harris County’s returns.
DFW and education wins
Fully endorsed Alisa Simmons defeated Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare by 91,251 votes in county returns. The Commissioners Court sets county tax rates and budgets. Fully endorsed Frederick D. Haynes III won U.S. House District 30. Preferred selections Amber Givens and Tiffany Burks won Dallas and Tarrant county district attorney races, gaining authority over prosecutions and charging decisions.
Haynes urged congregants to vote at his church and praised Simmons. Dallas Republicans objected to his church serving as a polling site while he was a candidate.
Five recommended State Board of Education candidates won, including fully endorsed Tiffany Clark. Fully endorsed Dana Van de Walker led Audrey Young by 564 votes. The board sets curriculum standards and reviews instructional materials.
Fully endorsed Ayaan Moledina won Round Rock ISD Place 3, the district reported. Preferred selection Rachel Weatherington won Keller ISD Place 4. Local trustees oversee district budgets and policies.
Losses included full endorsements Chelsey Hockett, Steven Shook and Orlando Lopez. Brittany Black and Eliz Markowitz each trailed by 134 votes; Stefanie Bord led by 265. Those races and Van de Walker’s remain close and unofficial.
Ratings and unanswered disclosures
An October 22 review counted 369 recommendations: 59 full endorsements, four joint endorsements and 306 Preferred selections. The live guide has changed. Its methodology distinguishes stronger alignment in full endorsements from Preferred choices that may differ on important issues. Joint endorsements back multiple candidates in one race.
CAIR Action’s priorities include immigration, law enforcement and foreign policy. Talarico’s platform opposes offensive weapons sales to Benjamin Netanyahu’s government while supporting Iron Dome and Hamas’ disarmament. Overlap does not establish an agreement.
In October 29 written answers to The Dallas Express, CAIR Action did not identify which Texas candidates participated and declined to disclose its budget.
“We don’t release internal questionnaires, evaluation materials or individual candidate responses,” the team said.
The group denied exchanging endorsements for commitments.
“CAIR Action made no direct contributions to Texas candidates and provided no campaign volunteers, candidate-directed advertisements, or other campaign assistance,” the team said in those written answers.
Separately, CAIR and CAIR Action announced 97 Muslim electoral victories nationwide on November 5. Their preliminary tracker listed 11 Texas Muslim candidates: five marked Win, four Leading, and two Lose. That tracker counts Muslim candidates, a separate category from candidates who received CAIR Action recommendations.
