Forbes Names Dallas Cowboys World’s Most Valuable Franchise

DALLAS  (WBAP/KLIF News) – For the second year in a row, the Dallas Cowboys earned the top stop in Forbes annual list of the world’s most valuable sports teams.

According to Forbes, owner Jerry Jones transformed the franchise from losing $1 million a month to earning $300 million in annual operating profit. It’s now worth $4.2 billion.

During the 2015 season, America’s Team posted an NFL record $700 million in revenue, $177 million more than any other team. From 2015 to 2016, the team’s value grew by 25 percent but growth dropped to 5 % for the 2016-2017.

Officials at Forbes said relocations and new stadiums are increasing the value of NFL teams, with the Cowboys being the economic model to match.

The New York Yankees were named the world’s most second valuable team. The franchise is worth $3.7 billion, up 9 % from 2016.

Rounding out the top five were the world’s most popular soccer clubs. Manchester United (#3.69 billion) out ranked Spanish teams Barcelona ($3.64 billion) and Real Madrid ($3.58 billion).
