DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) — After two canceled events and three years of legal skirmishes with the NFL Tony Romo’s fantasy football convention will finally become reality this weekend at Fair Park in Dallas.
The former Cowboys quarterback teamed up with his cousin, Andy Alberth, to create the event, which Alberth says “will give fans an opportunity to be really involved in their favorite sport by doing it alongside their favorite players.”
Cowboys-related news site Scout.com reports fans will be able to hobnob with such current and former NFL stars as current Cowboys Dez Bryant, Jason Witten and Zeke Elliott, among others, and former Cowboys Charles Haley, Terrell Owens, Drew Pearson and Darren Woodson. Even Johnny Manziel is expected to make an appearance. In all, fans will be able to meet 50 current and former players, according to Alberth.
Plans for the National Fantasy Football Convention, as the Romo-Alberth event is named, have been scuttled over NFL legal hassles twice before, the first time when the NFL blocked player participation at a convention scheduled for a Las Vegas casino. A lawsuit is still pending against the NFL by Romo’s company but it’s not scheduled for trial until November.
