The United States Mint opened preorders on September 10 for a special-issue half dollar honoring the victims, survivors, and first responders of the September 11 terrorist attacks as the nation marks the 25th anniversary.
The 2026 Semiquincentennial Enduring Liberty Half Dollar carries a “9-11-01” privy mark encircled by the words “NEVER FORGET.” The Mint said the special issue also commemorates lives lost in the February 26, 1993, terrorist attack.
Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, the circulating-quality coins are available in 20-coin rolls and 100-coin bags. Prices range from $40 to $100.
‘Never Forget’ mark honors victims
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent tied the release to the coming anniversary and to the Americans affected by the attacks.
“As we approach the 25th anniversary of September 11, we honor the memory of those we lost and the courage of those who risked their lives to save their fellow Americans,” Bessent said. “A quarter century later, our promise to the victims and their families remains the same: we will never forget.”
“These unique Enduring Liberty Half Dollars embody the honor and bravery of the victims, survivors, and first responders of those fateful terrorist attacks,” he added.
The coin’s obverse shows a close-up of the Statue of Liberty and includes the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “1776 ~ 2026.” Its reverse depicts Liberty passing her torch to a new generation and carries the inscription “KNOWLEDGE IS THE ONLY GUARDIAN OF TRUE LIBERTY.”
Preorders run through September 25
The Mint’s order window closes September 25 at 3 p.m. ET. Shipping is expected to begin December 3.
