The Department of War approved roughly $230 million in grants to bolster infrastructure supporting military installations nationwide, including three located in Texas.
The Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation issued the 2026 Defense Community Infrastructure Program awards on Wednesday, drawing from Fiscal Year 2026 funds. The federal grants leverage $77 million in non-federal contributions and $43 million in other funding, producing a combined $350 million investment. Projects target mission assurance, military family quality of life, installation resiliency, and cadet training at covered educational institutions.
“The Fiscal Year 2026 awards deliver historic funding to the Defense Community Infrastructure Program, driving critical infrastructure upgrades that directly strengthen military installations nationwide,” said Mr. Dale Marks, Assistant Secretary of War for Energy, Installations, and Environment. “This year’s program includes $100 million from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, helping to secure key investments to support our national security, as well as the readiness and lethality of our warfighters.”
Marks noted that the Assistant Secretary of War for Energy, Installations, and Environment directed the office on August 4, 2026, to invite applications following an April 17, 2026, notice of funding opportunity. Grants went to recipients in Alabama, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Maryland, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Washington. Groundbreaking may begin once environmental requirements are satisfied. The program operates under 10 U.S. Code § 2391(d).
Three Texas entities received grants under the program. The City of Corpus Christi received a $17.83 million federal grant for a $25.47 million project to modernize a water line corridor supporting Naval Air Station Corpus Christi.
The City of San Angelo was awarded $20 million toward a $28.63 million project to improve transportation and utility infrastructure serving Goodfellow Air Force Base.
San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District received $13.84 million for a $14.88 million project to construct an elementary school supporting Laughlin Air Force Base.
