DALLAS, TX (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Dallas non-profit restaurant is teaming up today with Downtown Dallas Inc., Amazon and the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas for a giant cook-out to help Hurricane Harvey victims. “Burgers for a Cause” takes place today from 11a to 2pm at Thanksgiving Square in downtown Dallas.
Chad Houser started Café Momentum to help juvenile offenders coming out of Dallas County juvenile detention facilities. He says the kids in the program asked him what they were going to go to Houston and cook to help Hurricane Harvey victims. Houser says “miraculously, at the same time we got a phone call from our friends at Amazon and they had a treasure truck that was bound for Houston with 6200 burgers on it that could not make it to Houston… and they asked if there was something we could do with it.” Houser said they called the United Way, Downtown Dallas, Inc. and some other vendors to put the benefit event together really quickly. Houser says everybody jumped on board.
Houser says anyone who wants to come down and grab a burger is invited and they’ll grill until they’re gone. The burgers are free, they only ask for a donation to go to the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. Houser hopes to raise $25,000 for Hurricane Harvey reconstruction efforts in southeast Texas.
