Marijuana Will Soon Be Legally Growing In Texas

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Texans who suffer with epilepsy, may soon have a new trail blazing option for treatment.  Marijuana for the purpose of being used for epilepsy will soon be legally growing in the state of Texas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety issued its first dispensary license to Texas Cansortium which allows the company to plant, grow and process marijuana on ten acres of land in Schulenburg Texas, near San Antonio.

The Texas Compassionate Use Act was enacted by the Texas Legislature in 2015. The bill requires DPS to create a secure registry of physicians who treat epilepsy for the purpose of prescribing low-THC cannabis to patients who have been diagnosed with intractable epilepsy. Treatment will be available by prescription and allowed if other federally approved medications have not helped.
