DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — No decision was made following an oral hearing in the NFL’s case against Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliot in the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Elliott’s attorneys argued Monday with NFL lawyers who are asking for a stay of injunction that is keeping the running back on the field after he was given a six game suspension. If the court rules in favor of the NFL Elliott could begin serving his suspension immediately. NFL sources say, however, that it is more likely to take another week or two before a decision is announced.
ESPN.com reports there are three possible outcomes from the appellate court:
— The court could rule that District Court Judge Amos Mazzant in Sherman, Texas, had no authority to hear the case and impose the injunction.
— The injunction could be vacated based upon the merits of the NFL’s case against Elliott.
— The court could deny the NFL’s request, allowing Elliott to play the entire current season with the legal battle extended into the 2018 season.
Following Sunday’s game Elliott told reporters he didn’t know if he would appear in court personally. He did attend the injunction hearing in Sherman before the season started.
