Last week’s Did You Miss It? tracked Dallas police staffing, the McKinney recall and Trump’s restored voter checks. This week, Dallas opened the new fiscal year with 3,410 sworn officers, 590 short of the 4,000-officer minimum voters added to the City Charter. Downtown crime and response times improved, but AT&T’s planned departure put the city’s comeback under a brighter spotlight.
City Hall also closed libraries and recreation centers for a final furlough day, shut down 321 state-funded Flock cameras while hundreds remained active, and faced new questions about DART and a lawsuit seeking more than $20 million over Fair Park.
Across Texas, a Muslim voter-registration push, Christian turnout efforts and scrutiny of Muslim Student Associations drove several of the week’s biggest stories. Public and undercover recordings also showed how Democratic candidates and officials discussed the Democratic Socialists of America. Immigration cases, Dallas crime and major North Texas job announcements rounded out the week.
Here are the stories and updates that helped shape the week.
