DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — Texas drivers are being warned to take care when using credit cards at gas stations. Four credit card skimmers were found on gas pumps at Hawk’s Pantry on Randol Mill Road in Arlington.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports the devices were removed by Arlington police after being discovered.
Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is reminding Texans to be alert when using credit card skimmers. He says you should check to see if a skimmer is loose or appears damaged. If anything seems amiss the problem should be reported to the clerk in the store.
The Ag Department also suggests consumers use credit cards rather than debit cards, or pay with cash inside the store. Also, check to see if a Bluetooth device is trying to connect with your phone and try to avoid using a gas pump that isn’t in full view of the store checkstand.
If you have any information about skimmers or related problems with gas pumps you are asked to call the Agriculture Department at 1-800-TELL-TDA.
