Texas (WBAP/KLIF) – The Wind Operations Dallas Conference is slated for April at the Westin Galleria, as industry leaders keep an eye on upcoming Congressional action regarding the energy alternative.
As part the House tax reform bill, the Texas’ lucrative and job-producing wind energy sector could lose a 10.9-billion dollar tax credit. The bill would retroactively slash the credit and that issue is worrying industry leaders across Texas.
Meantime, the Senate plan proposed to keep the existing credits in place through 2018.
Texas leads the U.S. in electricity produced by wind farms and has a large percentage of the nation’s wind projects currently in the pipeline.
According to the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), Texas ranks first in the country for both installed and under construction wind capacity, while supporting over 22,000 wind-related jobs. AWEA estimated that $50 billion in projects nationwide and 60,000 jobs are at stake.
Prominent DC conservatives oppose the renewable energy tax credits, calling them a “tax grab” for the wealthy. Credits for solar energy and elect cars are also on the chopping block.
