Cost Estimate Lowered for Removal of Robert E. Lee Monument

Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – A bit of a break for Dallas taxpayers who were initially on the hook for some $500,000 for the removal of the Robert E. Lee monument in Oak Lawn Park back in September.

As it turns out, the cost of removing the statue is lower than expected — now at about $375,000.

The monument stood for 81 years and its removal ignited intense protests.  The Sons of Confederate Veterans opposed the removal of the statue and opposed the use of any tax dollars to pay for it.
