Dallas Love Field officials say a short evacuation at the airport this morning resulted from smoke generated by an over-heated component in an AC unit.
Firefighters had the issue resolved in less than 20 minutes before travelers were let back into the airport. The brief disruption had caused massive delays in the security line, with some waiting in line longer than an hour and a half. The line wrapped all the way around from the ticket counters to baggage claim, then back to the main security hub.
The Airport has since said things are running back to normal.
Our Scott Sidway describes the situation as of about 6:40 this morning.
Check this out. I walked from the back of the line to the point where it starts coiling in the big security hub at the middle of @DallasLoveField. Took me 10 minutes to walk (briskly). Imagine standing forever in this after evacuation this morning. @WBAP247NEWS @570KLIF pic.twitter.com/8cC4clwJdG

See this ticket counters? Security line goes from main security hub, back to opposite side by baggage claim, wraps around, comes back to security hub, then BACK to these ticket counters 😳 pic.twitter.com/dSARh1dXFb

Dallas, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Love Field has resumed all normal operation after a fire alarm triggered an evacuation earlier this morning.
After an inspection, Dallas Fire Rescue gave an ‘all-clear.’
Airport officals urged travelers to be patient as they repopulated the airport. All of those evacuated had to go through the security check point again.
WOW. It is a mess to say the least at @DallasLoveField Airport this morning. Fire alarms went off earlier, causing evacuation. pic.twitter.com/WCE72eI4qP

Still fire trucks on scene at @DallasLoveField, but we’re hearing that a small fire has been put out. Everyone at main terminal evacuated, including those who had already made it through security. Talk about holiday travel stress… pic.twitter.com/ULkc81akKB
