Downtown Dallas will host two free, family-friendly celebrations Saturday, October 31, as Halloween festivities at Main Street Garden Park coincide with the city’s annual Día de los Muertos Parade and Festival near Dallas City Hall.
Both events begin at 4 p.m., giving North Texas families the opportunity to enjoy afternoon trick-or-treating before the evening’s parade.
The downtown Halloween celebration runs until 7 p.m., while the Día de los Muertos festival continues until 10 p.m.
Halloween Fun Returns To Main Street Garden
Downtown Dallas Inc. will host its eighth annual Trick or Treat on Downtown Streets celebration at Main Street Garden Park from 4 to 7 p.m.
Organizers are partnering with H-E-B for the event, which will offer treats, live entertainment, and activities for children and families.
Attendees can wear Halloween costumes, and admission is free.
H-E-B, Central Market, and Joe V’s Smart Shop are sponsoring the celebration, according to Visit Dallas.
The event takes place at Main Street Garden Park in downtown Dallas. Organizers encourage visitors to check the event listing for additional activity announcements.
Día De Los Muertos Parade Begins At 7 P.M.
The seventh annual Dallas Día de los Muertos Parade and Festival will take place at Dallas City Hall Plaza, 1500 Marilla St., from 4 to 10 p.m.
The celebration will feature live music, food concessions, arts and crafts, vendors, and traditional Mexican cultural displays.
The parade begins at 7 p.m. and will start and finish at Dallas City Hall.
Organizers encourage attendees and parade participants to wear clothing that honors Día de los Muertos traditions, including the recognizable skeletal costumes associated with Catrinas and Catríns.
The traditional Mexican holiday honors deceased family members and friends. Families commonly commemorate loved ones through decorated altars, photographs, candles, marigolds, and offerings known as ofrendas.
The holiday traditionally takes place November 1 and 2, although Dallas will hold its downtown celebration on Halloween.
Dallas Continues Its Día De Los Muertos Tradition
Dallas first hosted its downtown Día de los Muertos parade in 2019.
The celebration attracted substantial crowds during its early years, with approximately 40,000 attendees at the inaugural event, as previously covered by The Dallas Express.
The annual festivities have included traditional costumes, music, decorated floats, and opportunities for families to recognize deceased loved ones.
This year’s celebration will return to Dallas City Hall Plaza, where organizers have scheduled several hours of entertainment surrounding the evening parade.
