DALLAS — At least one suspect is in custody so far and Dallas police are continuing to search for another suspect after three shootings that happened in Deep Ellum amid Halloween celebrations.
At least four people are dead and 15 injured, DPD Chief Comeaux said during a press conference at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1.
In an update at 9:30 a.m., police said that the first shooting happened at 12:20 a.m. in the 2600 block of Elm St, then at 1:05 a.m. in the 2600 block of Main St., and a third shooting at 1:35 a.m. in the 200 block of South Crowdus Street.
DPD sources told WFAA that at one location a man said, “Hey, I’m gonna start shooting,” and then opened fire. Police said that multiple people were shot and three people were pronounced dead at that location.
Another person was confirmed dead at a second location.
Sources added that the shootings do not appear to be related, but the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information is asked to contact DPD Sgt. Boz Rojas, #10379, at (214)-671-3598 or at boz.rojas@dallaspolice.gov.
Naturi Sayles spoke with WFAA’s Cole Sullivan to share her experience.
It was her first time in Deep Ellum. She said it was a nice time and “the vibes were very nice” until people started shooting.
“Everybody started running of course, natural instincts comes in,” Sayles said. “I did duck and then I don’t know. I saw one person that got shot, they were laying on the ground and they got taken out to the ambulance … I hope they’re OK.”
She described the scene as chaos, and at 5 a.m. she was still waiting to get access to her vehicle.
“There’s a few people I’ve talked to tonight who have to sit here and wait for their cars to get unlocked from the crime scene to be able to go home,” she said.
